What is the Glock 26 sight?π€
It typically refers to the handgun’s sights, which are essential components for aiming and accuracy. The standard Glock 26 usually comes with “dot and post” sights, which consist of a front sight with a white dot and a rear sight with a white outline around a square notch. These sights are simple and effective for most shooting scenarios. However, many Glock owners choose to upgrade or customize their sights for improved accuracy, faster target acquisition, or better visibility in low-light conditions.
Featuresπ
The features of sights for a Glock 26, or any handgun, can vary depending on the specific model and brand of sights you choose. However, here are some common ones:
π· Sight Picture: A clear and well-defined sight picture is crucial for accurate aiming. Such sights typically consist of a front sight and a rear sight. The front sight may have a white dot, fiber optic insert, or tritium illumination for visibility.
π· Low Profile: Many aftermarket Glock 26 sights are designed to be low profile to minimize the risk of snagging on clothing or holsters during concealed carry.
π· Easy Installation: Look for sights that are relatively easy to install or can be installed by a qualified gunsmith without significant modifications to the handgun.
π· Durability: Sights should be made from durable materials to withstand the recoil and wear associated with firing a semi-automatic pistol.
π· Quick Target Acquisition: Some sights are designed with features like a U-notch rear sight or a larger front sight dot to facilitate rapid target acquisition.
Benefitsπ€©
Upgrading the sights on your Glock 26 can offer several benefits that enhance your shooting experience and overall firearm performance. Here are some of the key advantages:
βοΈ High-quality sights with a clear sight picture can help you achieve more accurate shot placement, whether you’re target shooting, practicing, or using your Glock 26 for self-defense.
βοΈ If you opt for night sights with tritium inserts, your Glock 26 will become more effective in low-light or nighttime situations. This can be critical for self-defense scenarios.
βοΈ Many aftermarket sights are designed to be low profile and snag-free, which can be important for concealed carry. These sights are less likely to catch on clothing or holsters when drawing your firearm.
βοΈ Some upgraded sights are adjustable for windage and elevation, allowing you to fine-tune your Glock 26’s point of impact. This is particularly useful for competition shooters who need precise control over their sights.
Types of pistol sightsπ’
There are several different types of pistol sights available, each with its own advantages and design features. Here are some of the most common types:
β΄οΈ Fixed Sights: These are standard sights that come factory-installed on most handguns. Fixed sights consist of a front sight and a rear sight that is fixed in place and cannot be adjusted for windage or elevation. They are simple and durable but may not be as customizable or precise as other sight types. |
β΄οΈ Adjustable Sights: These sights allow you to make windage and elevation adjustments to fine-tune your point of impact. They are commonly used by competitive shooters who need precise control over their sights to achieve accuracy. Adjustable sights often have screws or dials for adjustments. |
β΄οΈ Night Sights: They are designed for low-light or nighttime shooting. They contain small tritium vials that glow in the dark, providing a constant source of illumination for the shooter to align the sights accurately. Night sights enhance visibility in dark conditions, making them suitable for self-defense purposes. |
β΄οΈ Fiber Optic Sights: Such sights use a colored, light-gathering rod in the front sight to enhance visibility in various lighting conditions. These sights can provide a bright and easy-to-see aiming point, making them popular for competition shooting. |
β΄οΈ Red Dot Sights: Red dots are non-magnifying optical sights that provide an illuminated red dot or reticle for aiming. They are mounted on the slide or frame of the pistol and offer rapid target acquisition and accuracy. Red dot sights are commonly used in competition shooting and are gaining popularity in self-defense handguns. |
β΄οΈ Laser Sights: These sights project a visible or infrared laser beam onto the target, providing an aiming reference point. They are often used for quick target acquisition and can be particularly useful in low-light situations. Laser sights can be mounted on the accessory rail of the pistol or integrated into the grip. |
β΄οΈ Tactical/Combat Sights: Tactical or combat sights are designed for quick target acquisition and close-quarters shooting. They typically have a large front sight dot and a U-notch or wide rear notch to facilitate fast sight alignment. These sights are often used on pistols for self-defense. |
β΄οΈ Suppressor-Height Sights: Such sights are taller than standard sights, allowing them to co-witness with a mounted suppressor or red dot sight. They are designed to maintain a clear sight picture even when accessories are attached to the pistol. |
β΄οΈ Competition Sights: These sights are specifically designed for competitive shooting disciplines. They often feature adjustable components, a clear-sighted picture, and various aiming aids to maximize accuracy and speed in competition settings. |
β΄οΈ Novelty/Aftermarket Sights: There are various novelty and aftermarket sights available that come in different shapes, colors, and designs. These sights are often chosen for their aesthetic appeal or personal preferences rather than specific shooting advantages. |
π When choosing pistol sights, consider your shooting needs, preferences, and the intended use of your firearm. The type of sights that work best for one person may not be ideal for another, so it’s important to find the sights that suit your shooting style and goals.

How to aim a pistol with sights?π―
Aiming a pistol, whether using iron sights or a red dot sight, requires a consistent and proper technique. Here are step-by-step instructions for aiming with both types of sights:
β Aiming with Iron Sights: | β Aiming with a Red Dot Sight: |
𧩠Grip and Stance: Start with a proper grip and stance. Your dominant hand should have a firm grip on the pistol, with your index finger resting alongside the frame outside the trigger guard. Your non-dominant hand should support the pistol, and your arms should be extended toward the target. Your stance should be balanced and stable. 𧩠Focus on the Front Sight: Your primary focus should be on the front sight, which is the post or dot on the front of the pistol. The rear sight and the target should appear slightly blurred in your peripheral vision. 𧩠Sight Alignment: Ensure that the front sight is centered in the rear sight notch. The top of the front sight should be level with the top of the rear sight. This creates a “sight picture,” where the aligned sights are superimposed on the target. 𧩠Target Focus: While maintaining your primary focus on the front sight, you should be aware of the target. Your brain will naturally align the sights with the target, and you’ll see the target in your peripheral vision. 𧩠Trigger Control: As you maintain proper sight alignment, slowly and smoothly press the trigger straight to the rear without disturbing the alignment of the sights. A smooth trigger press is critical for accuracy. 𧩠Follow Through: After the shot breaks, continue to focus on the front sight momentarily and maintain your grip on the pistol. This helps with follow-up shots if necessary. |
𧩠Grip and Stance: Just like with iron sights, begin with a proper grip and stance. Ensure your dominant hand has a secure grip on the pistol, and your non-dominant hand provides support. 𧩠Acquire the Dot: Look through the red dot sight and acquire the illuminated dot. Most red dot sights have an on/off switch or motion activation, so ensure the dot is visible. 𧩠Co-Witness (if applicable): If your pistol has suppressor-height sights or backup iron sights that co-witness with the red dot, ensure that the dot is aligned with the iron sights. This provides redundancy in case the red dot fails. 𧩠Dot Centering: Keep the red dot centered on the target. The dot should be where you want the shot to impact. Unlike iron sights, you don’t need to align front and rear sights; just keep the dot on target. 𧩠Trigger Control: Similar to iron sights, press the trigger smoothly and straight to the rear while maintaining the dot on the target. Be aware of any movement that might disturb the dot. 𧩠Follow Through: After the shot breaks, maintain your sight picture and grip on the pistol for follow-up shots if needed. Keep the dot on target. |
π₯ Practice is crucial to become proficient with either iron sights or red dot sights. Dry-fire practice (practice without live ammunition) can help you refine your aiming technique and trigger control.

I recently acquired a new Glock 26, and I’m considering upgrading the sights for better low-light visibility. I’m torn between tritium sights. Can you give me some recommendations?
For my carry Glock 26, I’ve decided to go with Trijicon tritium sights. I believe that for a carry gun, the durability and longevity offered by Trijicon will be valuable, and the Trijicon HD Night Sights Set is known for maintaining its glow over time, which is crucial for self-defense situations. As for my range gun, I’ll base my decision on my budget. TruGlo Brite-Site TFX Pro Sight Set is more budget-friendly, so they might be a better choice for my range gun, where I don’t need the extreme durability and longevity that Trijicon offers.
I recently acquired a Glock 26 and I’m looking for some guidance on selecting the right red dot sight. Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I decide on the best red dot sight for my firearm.
Based on my experience, I’d say that Holosun offers the best value for your money when it comes to red dot sights. They provide excellent features and performance at a more budget-friendly price point. Specifically, I would recommend considering the Vortex Viper 1x24mm 6 MOA Red Dot Sight.
When you’re in the process of getting your slide milled for a red dot sight, you have the option to choose between the RMR footprint. In my experience, the Meprolight Micro Red Dot Sight Kit provides excellent value for the money, making it a budget-friendly choice. However, your decision should depend on your specific preferences and priorities when it comes to red dot sights.
I’m looking for recommendations on night sights for my Glock 26. What do you recommend? Thank you for your suggestions.
I recommend going for the Ameriglo Tritium Front Rear Tall Suppressor Set. One modification I’m planning to make is thinning down the front sight to around .115″, and I’m fortunate to have a pair of digital calipers for that purpose.
I’m seeking recommendations for sights for my Glock 26. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
For defensive purposes, my preferred sights are XS Sight Systems DXT2 Big Dot Night Sight. While they may have a learning curve, I’ve found them to be excellent once you get the hang of using them effectively at different distances. Additionally, I’m a fan of the AmeriGlo Ghost Ring Night Sight Set. They offer a solid combination of usability and performance for my Glock.
I’ve installed the Truglo TFX Glock Low Green 3 Dot Sight on my Glock 26. However, for my Bodyguard 380, I’m planning to switch to the Trijicon HD XR Night Sight Set just to see how they perform and compare.
