Installing a stock is a relatively simple process that can be completed with basic tools. Here are the general steps to install a new stock:
🔷 Unload the rifle and ensure that it is not loaded before beginning any work.
🔷 Remove the existing stock by unscrewing the takedown screw located near the trigger guard. This will allow the barrel and receiver to be separated from the stock.

🔷 If the new stock requires additional hardware, such as a new barrel band or swivel studs, install them according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
🔷 Attach the new stock to the barrel and receiver by aligning the takedown screw hole on the new stock with the hole on the receiver, and then screwing in the takedown screw to secure the stock in place.
🔷 Check that the new stock is securely attached to the barrel and receiver and that there is no movement or wobbling.
🔷 Test the function of the rifle by performing a function check to ensure that everything is working properly.
⚠️ It is important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation and to ensure that the rifle is unloaded and in a safe condition before beginning any work. About a year ago, I bought a brand new Ruger 10/22 for around $170 and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed shooting it ever since. However, I find that the synthetic camo stock it came with is a bit short for me. I’m interested in finding a minimalist stock, possibly even a folding one, that can improve my shooting experience. I don’t necessarily want it to look like anything else, I just want it to be more comfortable to shoot.
Do you have any recommendations? I’ve heard of the Butler Creek folding stock and was wondering if that might be a good option. However, I’m open to any suggestions you might have. Ideally, I’m looking for a stock that is lightweight, comfortable, and adjustable. Thanks in advance for your help!🙏
🚩 One option you could consider is the Magpul Hunter X-22 stock. It’s a lightweight and durable stock that is adjustable for the length of pull and comb height, so you can customize it to your specific needs. It also has a non-slip rubber butt pad for added comfort.
If you’re looking for a folding stock, the Butler Creek folding stock you mentioned could be a good option. It’s made from lightweight polymer and folds for easy storage and transport. It also has a length of pull that is adjustable from 12.5 to 14.5 inches.
🚩 Another option you might want to consider is the Hogue OverMolded stock. It’s a simple, yet comfortable stock that is made from a rubber over-molded synthetic material. It has a length of pull of 13.75 inches and is available in several different colors.
I would recommend trying out different stocks if possible to see which one feels the most comfortable for you.😉
High Tower Armory is made from a high-quality polymer shell that looks and feels great. Installation is a breeze, but it’s important to read the manual first and group all the bolts of the same size together. The gun can feel a bit heavy once fully installed, especially with a bull barrel, but the overall build feels sturdy.👍
I also installed the BX trigger and found that the trigger pull has a nice feel with a fast reset. The only drawback is that the pre-travel is about two-thirds of the overall pull due to the trigger bar. However, the side charging handle, magazine release, and bolt catch all operate smoothly. It’s really enjoyable to shoot and turns heads at the range. Most people don’t even realize it’s just a conversion.😆
I highly recommend this stock if you’re looking for a different look and feel for your Ruger. The only downside is that it takes a bit longer to clean the gun, but it’s not a big deal.😎
I was pleasantly surprised by the sturdiness and durability of this stock. I was initially expecting cheap, flimsy plastic parts that would easily wear out and become loose over time. However, all the components fit together with precision and the materials used are of good quality. The chassis system is adaptable and compact, although it does require additional steps to disassemble for cleaning. Despite this, I think it’s worth it for the versatility it provides.
I mounted my optics on the top rail and they have held zero without any issues. The only downside for me is the magazine style they chose to simulate a large mag, but the stock works well with all the magazines I’ve tried, including the factory 10th mags.
One thing to note is that if you have a 10-22 with a shorter barrel length, you may need to be mindful of NFA regulations. I installed a receiver with a 16″ threaded barrel in the stock, but the overall length of the rifle came in half an inch under the NFA minimum length of 26″. This is easily remedied with a permanent modification to add some length or by obtaining an SBR license.
Overall, I highly recommend Archangel Nomad stock. You won’t be disappointed with its quality and performance.😍
Can X-22 backpacker stock fit different barrels?
This stock features a cradle that can be flipped to accommodate either the Bull Barrel or the “pencil” barrel.👌
If you’re a proud owner of the Ruger 22 takedown, then you simply cannot do without X-22 Backpacker stock. Wondering why? Well, here’s the deal: it’s the only way to ensure accurate shooting with your rifle.
I’ve experimented with my 22 takedown and many others, and the truth is that it’s impossible to maintain a zero with the removable barrel if you mount a sight on the picatinny rail. Shockingly, over half of the rifles I’ve tested had a loose barrel, making it difficult to maintain a reliable zero. You can quickly test this by placing the stock butt on the ground and gripping the front sight with one hand while using the other hand to push and pull at the connection point of the breakdown. If it’s loose, how can you expect to maintain a zero? 😊
After much experimentation, I did manage to figure out a way to tighten the 22 takedown connection so that there is almost no movement possible. The trick is to over-tighten the threaded sleeve, which makes connecting the barrel extremely difficult, but it creates a super tight mount. However, even after extensive shooting tests, I found that it’s still impossible to maintain a repeatable zero with this method. So, you can imagine how frustrating it can be to deal with these issues.
In conclusion, if you want to ensure consistent and accurate shooting with your Ruger 22 takedown, then you really need to invest in this stock LOL 😆
Magpul has truly outdone itself with its latest offering, a stock that is a significant upgrade from the 10/22 takedown factory stock. I must say, I am thoroughly impressed by the thoughtful design and innovative features that have been incorporated into this product.😍
Firstly, the grip angle is just perfect, allowing for a comfortable and secure grip. Additionally, the stock storage is a game-changer, as it allows for easy access to extra magazines or other small items that are necessary to have on hand during shooting sessions. I also appreciate the inclusion of two different cheek risers, which provide added comfort and versatility.
Another standout feature is the grip storage, which is a clever way to store small items such as earplugs or spare batteries. And perhaps the most impressive aspect of this stock is the way it can be easily and compactly stored when not in use, making it ideal for those who need to transport their firearm frequently.
My only suggestion for improvement would be to come up with a way to co-witness the iron sights with a Picatinny scope attached. Nevertheless, Magpul has certainly set the bar high with its exceptional engineering and attention to detail.🔥🔥🔥
great selection, I already have Hunter X-22 Stock, and now I want to add to my collection Archangel Nomad Stock 😈
