Appendix holsters

Features📝

Appendix holsters are specialized gun holsters designed for concealed carry, usually in the appendix position near the front of the waistband. Here are some features:

  • ✴️ Concealment: Their positioning allows for deep concealment of a firearm while still providing easy access. Many holsters are even designed with extra customization options such as height adjustments or curved trigger guards to provide further concealment.
  • ✴️ Quick Draws: Because of its positioning, it provides fast draws from either side while still offering excellent retention when re-holstering the weapon. Additionally, many models have features like sweat shields that help keep clothing away from the weapon for faster draws and smoother re-holstering.

Benefits🤩

The benefits of using an appendix holster are numerous, offering both convenience and security.

  • ⭐️ For starters, they provide a secure way to carry a firearm without having to worry about it being visible or in the way. The holster is designed to be worn in the appendix area, which is just below the waistline allowing for easy access when needed.
  • ⭐️ They also provide users with greater comfort than many other types of holsters due to their design. They sit closer to the body and distribute weight more evenly across the torso, making it easier on your back and hips while carrying.
  • ⭐️ Other benefits include improved trigger guard coverage; such holsters typically offer complete coverage of the trigger guard area. This helps ensure that accidental discharge is less likely and ensures maximum safety when carrying a firearm.
  • ⭐️ Additionally, some models even come with added features such as adjustable ride height and cant angle which can help further improve accessibility and fit depending on individual body type.

Benefits of appendix holster

What to look for when choosing?🔍

When purchasing an appendix holster, there are several factors to consider.

  • ☑️ Comfort is key when carrying a firearm, so it’s important to find a holster that is adjustable and provides the right amount of retention for your particular firearm.
  • ☑️ In terms of concealment, you’ll want to look for a holster that has minimal bulk and can easily be hidden under clothing. Some holsters also offer features such as adjustable canting and ride height which allow you to customize the draw angle and depth of your firearm in the waistband.
  • ☑️ The type of material used is also an important factor. Most holsters are made from either leather or Kydex (a type of molded plastic). Leather is more comfortable against the skin, but may not hold up as well over time due to wear and tear from regular use. On the other hand, Kydex offers greater durability but may feel uncomfortable against bare skin.
  • ☑️ Finally, make sure to choose a model that comes with all necessary hardware or mounting clips for attaching additional accessories like magazine carriers or lights.

How to appendix carry comfortably?🤠

Appendix carry can be an incredibly comfortable way to carry a concealed firearm. When done properly it can be very discreet, easy to access, and offer significant comfort.

  • ➡️ Before deciding on a holster for your appendix carry setup, you should consider what type of handgun you intend on carrying. Some holsters are designed specifically for certain models of firearms, while others are more universal in their fitment. Furthermore, some models may require a belt or other accessories to stabilize the holster in place while you’re carrying your handgun.
  • ➡️ Look for a holster that is breathable and lightweight. Many times people will wear something too bulky or restrictive which can make their appendix carry uncomfortable or even unsafe if it shifts while they’re on the move.
  • ➡️ The level of retention offered by a holster is also important. You want a retention system that offers enough security so that your gun won’t easily come out but not so much that it takes too much effort to draw from it quickly in an emergency.
  • ➡️ Finally, make sure that whatever you choose fits snugly against your skin without digging into your flesh or causing any discomfort over long periods. Comfort should always be paramount when choosing an appendixcarry setup as anything else will affect both your safety and performance when using your firearm in self-defense situations.

FAQ🧐

What is the best position for appendix carry?

✍️ The best position for appendix carry is a matter of personal preference and comfort. However, there are some general guidelines to consider.

  • Appendix carry typically involves placing the holster and firearm in the front area of the body, between the belly button and the hip bone. The exact position can vary depending on your body shape, size, and individual preferences.

✍️ Here are a few factors to consider when determining the best position for you:

  • 🔷 Comfort: The holster should be positioned in a way that feels comfortable and doesn’t cause discomfort or restrict your movement. Experiment with different positions to find the one that works best for you.
  • 🔷 Accessibility: The appendix carry position is often favored for its quick and easy access to the firearm. Ensure that the position allows you to draw the firearm efficiently and safely without any obstructions or difficulties.
  • 🔷 Concealment: The primary advantage of appendix carry is its ability to provide effective concealment. The position should allow the firearm to be discreetly hidden under clothing, minimizing printing or revealing the presence of the weapon.
  • 🔷 Safety: It’s crucial to prioritize safety when carrying a firearm. Ensure that the chosen position provides a secure and stable fit for the holster, preventing any accidental dislodging or movement of the firearm.

😉 Remember, everyone’s body shape and preferences are different, so it may take some trial and error to find the ideal position for you.

What is the best material for a gun holster?

🟦 The best material depends on various factors, including personal preference, intended use, and the type of firearm being carried. Here are some commonly used materials:

  • 🧩 Leather is a popular choice for gun holsters due to its durability, comfort, and aesthetic appeal. It provides a secure fit for the firearm and can mold to the shape of the gun over time, offering a custom fit. Leather holsters are typically more comfortable against the skin and can offer good retention. However, they may require regular maintenance to preserve their quality.
  • 🧩 Kydex is a type of thermoplastic material known for its rigidity and durability. Kydex holsters offer excellent retention, protect the firearm from moisture, and are resistant to wear and tear. They are also less prone to sagging or deforming over time. These holsters are commonly used for open carry and tactical applications.
  • 🧩 Nylon holsters are lightweight, affordable, and resistant to water and sweat. They are easy to clean and can offer good retention for the firearm. However, nylon holsters may not be as rigid as other materials, and the fit may not be as snug. They are commonly used for concealed carry and as an economical option for everyday use.
  • 🧩 Hybrid holsters typically combine different materials, such as leather and Kydex or nylon and Kydex, to provide the benefits of both. For example, a hybrid holster may feature a Kydex shell for retention and a leather backing for comfort against the body. These holsters aim to offer a balance between comfort, retention, and durability.
Is appendix carry comfortable for bigger guys?

😀 Appendix carry can be comfortable for bigger individuals, but it may require some additional considerations and adjustments compared to those with smaller body types. Here are a few factors to consider:

  • ➡️ Holster Selection: Choose a holster that is specifically designed for appendix carry and offers features suitable for larger body frames.
  • ➡️ Belt Selection: A sturdy and supportive gun belt is crucial for appendix carry, especially for bigger individuals. Look for belts that are specifically designed for carrying firearms and offer sufficient width and rigidity to support the weight of the holster and firearm.
  • ➡️ Placement and Positioning: Experiment with the placement and positioning of the holster to find the most comfortable spot for your body shape.
  • ➡️ Practice and Familiarity: Becoming comfortable with appendix carry may require practice and familiarity. Spend time practicing drawing and holstering your firearm in a safe and controlled manner to build confidence and adjust to the carry position.

📌 Remember, individual comfort levels can vary, and what works for one person may not work for another. It’s important to listen to your body and make adjustments as needed.

Is appendix carry faster?

🟪 Appendix carry is often considered to be a fast and efficient method of carrying a firearm. However, the speed of the draw and presentation from the appendix carry position can depend on various factors, including an individual’s training, body mechanics, and level of familiarity with the carry method. Here are some reasons why appendix carry can be perceived as faster:

  • ✔️ Accessibility: With the firearm positioned in the front of the body, the appendix carry allows for quick and easy access to the weapon. The proximity of the holster to the dominant hand and the natural body mechanics make it easier to achieve a fast and efficient draw.
  • ✔️ Natural Arm Movement: The natural motion of the dominant hand moving toward the centerline of the body can facilitate a smooth and direct draw stroke from the appendix carry position. This can potentially result in faster presentation times compared to other carry positions that may require reaching across the body or around the back.
  • ✔️ Minimal Obstruction: Appendix carry is known for providing minimal interference with clothing and other equipment, allowing for a clear and unobstructed draw stroke. This lack of obstructions can contribute to a faster and more streamlined draw.

❗ It’s important to note that achieving a fast draw from any carry position requires regular training, practice, and proper technique.

What is the best ride height for appendix carry?

✳️ The best ride height for appendix carry can vary depending on personal preference, body shape, and comfort. However, some general guidelines can help you find the optimal ride height for your specific needs:

  • 🔶 Accessibility: The ride height should allow you to easily and comfortably access the firearm when drawing. The holster should be positioned high enough that you can establish a secure grip on the firearm without any obstructions or difficulty.
  • 🔶 Concealment: The ride height should also facilitate effective concealment of the firearm. It should be positioned low enough that the grip of the firearm is concealed by clothing, minimizing printing or the visibility of the weapon.
  • 🔶 Comfort and Mobility: The ride height should be comfortable for extended periods of wear and allow for natural body movements. It should not dig into the body or cause discomfort when sitting, standing, or engaging in physical activities.
  • 🔶 Body Shape and Size: Consider your body shape and size when determining the ride height. Factors such as torso length, belly shape, and hip structure can influence the most comfortable and effective ride height for appendix carry.

Based on my personal experience, I’ve encountered issues with the current holster I have for my Glock 19 and 19x. Specifically, it tends to show too much while I’m standing straight up, which compromises the concealment. Consequently, I’m in search of a better holster solution that can effectively address this concern.

I have a strong preference for my Comp-Tac EV2 Max Hybrid Appendix IWB Holster. It has made such a positive impact that I switched from carrying on my strong side to AIWB (appendix inside the waistband) because I enjoy it so much. Previously, I used to find AIWB uncomfortable, but after giving it a try with this holster, I realized it no longer bothers me in the slightest.
