Best Ankle Glock 43 Holster

What is the Best Ankle Glock 43 Holster? 🤗

The Ankle Glock 43 Holster is a holster designed to allow concealed carry of a pistol on the ankle. It features a wide elastic band that wraps around the ankle to secure the holster in place, with a pocket made of durable neoprene to hold the pistol.

It allows a person to discreetly carry a compact pistol for self-defense purposes. Its ankle mount location keeps the firearm out of sight but is still easily accessible if needed. This type of holster is popular among those who want to conceal and carry a small semi-automatic pistol as a backup or secondary weapon.

While ankle carry has some drawbacks compared to other carry locations, it provides an option for those seeking an invisible carry solution for a compact pistol.

Benefits 🔥

✅ It offers several advantages that can be particularly useful in specific scenarios. One of the most notable benefits is its ability to serve as a backup carry location. For those who already have a primary firearm on their waist or chest, it provides a discreet secondary location, ensuring that they have a backup weapon within reach if needed. This can be especially valuable for law enforcement officers or security personnel who might find themselves in situations where their primary weapon is inaccessible or compromised.

✅ Another benefit is its unobtrusive nature. For those who prefer deep concealment, the ankle location ensures that the firearm remains hidden, even when wearing tighter clothing that might reveal a waistband holster. This can be particularly useful in environments where discretion is paramount. Additionally, for individuals who spend a lot of time seated, such as drivers or office workers, it can be more accessible than other carry methods.

Features ⭐

☑️ When examining the features, several aspects stand out. Firstly, a well-designed model will prioritize comfort. Given that it’s worn around a sensitive area of the body, it should have adequate padding to prevent chafing and ensure that the firearm doesn’t dig into the wearer’s leg. This is especially important considering it will be worn for extended periods.

☑️ Retention is another critical feature. It should securely hold the gun in place, even during vigorous movement. Some of them incorporate adjustable retention straps or mechanisms to ensure the firearm remains snugly in place. Additionally, it should be designed in a way that allows for a quick and smooth draw, ensuring that the wearer can access their firearm efficiently when needed.

☑️ Lastly, durability and build quality are paramount. Given that the ankle is an area exposed to movement and potential knocks, it should be made of robust materials that can withstand daily wear and tear. High-quality stitching, reinforced edges, and premium materials all contribute to a holster that will serve its user reliably over time.

Glock 43 Ankle Holster Main Points Consider ⚠️

➡️ Here are some main points to consider when looking for an ankle holster:

 Point  Description
✅ Comfort
  • It should be comfortable to wear for extended periods. Look for one made of soft, flexible material that won’t rub or chafe the ankle. Padding and breathable fabric are pluses.
✅ Retention
  • A small, lightweight pistol needs to be gripped securely so there is no chance of it slipping out accidentally. Look for adjustable retention or active retention mechanisms.
✅ Concealability
  • The main point is to keep it hidden but accessible. It should ride close to the ankle and not print through the pants. Low-profile designs are best.
✅ Accessibility
  • Can you draw smoothly and quickly from the ankle position if needed? Practice your drawing before relying on it. Make sure the grip clearance and angle allow a clean draw.
✅ Stability
  • It needs to stay put during movement and activity. A wide ankle strap and non-slip interior will lock it in place on the leg. Wraparound strap designs are very stable.
✅ Material
  • Look for durable materials like Kydex or Bolton to hold up over time. Leather and nylon can also work well. Avoid cheaper soft fabrics.
✅ Fit
  • Be sure to get one designed specifically for the shape and size. One that is too big will not hold securely.
✅ Protection
  • It should cover the trigger guard and sight edges to prevent snagging and injury when drawn. A sweat guard also protects from moisture.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Ankle Holsters ☝️

Ankle holsters, like all carry methods, come with their own set of advantages and disadvantages, which can vary based on individual needs and specific scenarios.

🚩 Advantages:

👉 One of the primary advantages is their ability to offer deep concealment. For individuals who require a high level of discretion, such as undercover officers or those in environments where a visible firearm might cause alarm, it keeps the weapon out of sight. This is especially useful when wearing clothing that might not easily conceal a waistband or shoulder holster.

👉 Another significant benefit is the provision of a backup carry location. For those who already have a primary firearm on their waist or chest, it ensures they have a secondary weapon within reach. This redundancy can be crucial in situations where the primary weapon becomes inaccessible or is compromised.

👉 Additionally, for individuals who spend a significant amount of time seated, it can be more accessible than a waistband. Drivers, for instance, might find it easier to draw from an ankle position than from behind the hip.

🚩 Disadvantages:

👉 However, they are not without their drawbacks. One of the main disadvantages is the potential for slower draw times. Given its location, drawing a firearm from it can be less intuitive and slower than drawing from the waist or chest, especially if the wearer is standing.

👉 Comfort can also be a concern. Depending on the design and the individual’s anatomy, it might cause chafing or discomfort, especially when worn for extended periods. This is particularly true if it lacks adequate padding or if the firearm’s weight causes it to shift during movement.

👉 Another potential issue is the exposure to dirt and debris. Given its proximity to the ground, a firearm in it might be more susceptible to dust, dirt, and moisture, which could affect its functionality.

In conclusion, while they offer unique advantages in terms of deep concealment and backup carry options, they also come with challenges related to draw speed, comfort, and potential exposure to the elements. As with any carry method, it’s essential to weigh these factors based on individual needs and preferences.

FAQ 📚

What advantages of ankle holsters?

➡️ Here are some potential advantages of ankle carry:

  • 🔶 Concealability: This can be easily hidden by pants or boots, making it a discreet option for carrying a small firearm. This makes ankle carry popular among plainclothes officers or citizens wanting to have a backup gun.
  • 🔶 Accessibility: Place the firearm on the inside of the ankle where it can be easily accessed if needed, even while seated. Drawing from ankle carry is often faster than drawing from a hip or waistband when sitting.
  • 🔶 Comfort: Since the weight is down low near the body’s center of gravity, ankle carry may be more comfortable for all-day wear than a belt or waistband which can dig into the hips. Less weight pulling at the waist may also improve back comfort.
  • 🔶 Retention: Secures the firearm right next to the body, making it difficult for anyone else to grab or access the weapon unintentionally.
  • 🔶 Versatility: Works well with smaller guns like subcompacts and revolvers. It can be worn discretely with various clothing from suits to skirts to casual wear.
  • 🔶 Backup option: Many who carry a primary handgun on the hip/waist also carry a backup handgun in ankle carry for added preparedness.

Potential downsides include slower drawing compared to other positions, limited weight capacity, and decreased accessibility when in a vehicle. But overall ankle carry is a flexible concealed carry method worth considering.

Which leg do you wear an ankle holster on?

🚩 The choice of which leg to wear it on typically depends on the individual’s dominant hand and the intended purpose of the firearm in the holster.

🚩 For right-handed individuals, it is commonly worn on the inside of the left leg. This positioning allows the wearer to kneel down with their right knee and draw the firearm with their right hand in a smooth motion. Conversely, left-handed individuals often wear it on the inside of their right leg for the same reason.

🚩 However, if the firearm in it is intended as a backup weapon, some individuals might choose to wear it on the inside of their dominant leg. The rationale behind this is that if their primary weapon (usually carried on the waist) is inaccessible or compromised, it might be due to a physical altercation that restricts their dominant arm. In such a scenario, having the backup weapon on the dominant side might allow for a quicker and more intuitive draw with the non-dominant hand.

🚩 It’s also worth noting that there are some of them designed to be worn on the outside of the leg. These are less common but can be preferred by some for comfort or ease of access reasons.

🚩 Ultimately, the decision of which leg to wear it on is a personal one. It should be based on comfort, ease of draw, and the specific tactical considerations of the wearer. It’s always a good idea to practice drawing in various positions and scenarios to ensure that the chosen setup is both comfortable and functional.

Can you run with an ankle holster?

🔶 Running with it is possible, but it comes with several considerations and challenges. The primary concern when running with any firearm is ensuring that the weapon remains securely in place and doesn’t become a hazard.

🔶 They are designed to be snug around the leg, but the constant movement and impact from running can cause the firearm to shift or bounce. This movement can be uncomfortable, and in some cases, the firearm might even become dislodged from it. A firearm bouncing against the ankle can lead to bruising or other injuries, especially during longer runs.

🔶 Another consideration is the added weight on one leg. Even though most compact firearms suitable for ankle carry are relatively lightweight, the imbalance can still affect a runner’s stride and potentially lead to strain or injury over time.

🔶 However, there are ankle holsters on the market specifically designed with added retention features to minimize movement. These might include additional straps, reinforced elastic, or even a calf strap to help distribute the weight and reduce bouncing. If one intends to run or engage in other vigorous activities while wearing it, it’s crucial to invest in a high-quality model designed for such purposes.

🔶 In conclusion, while it’s possible to run with it, it’s essential to ensure that it is suited for this activity. Regularly testing the setup by jogging or running in a safe environment can help determine its suitability. It’s also crucial to listen to one’s body and adjust or reconsider the carry method if discomfort or imbalances are noticed.

How tight should ankle guards be?

🔷 When it comes to ankle holsters, achieving the right fit is crucial for both safety and comfort. It should be snug enough to ensure that the firearm remains securely in place, but not so tight that it restricts blood flow or causes discomfort.

🔷 A properly fitted model will sit securely around the leg without sliding down, even during movement. If it shifts or rotates around the ankle too easily, there’s a risk that the firearm could become dislodged or positioned in a way that makes drawing it difficult or unsafe. On the other hand, if it is too tight, it can cause chafing, skin irritation, or even numbness in the foot due to restricted blood flow. Overly tight models can also lead to muscle cramps or strain in the lower leg.

🔷 It’s essential to find a balance. The wearer should be able to slide a finger or two between the holster and the leg, indicating that there’s enough room for blood circulation, but not so much space that it can move freely. Some of them come with adjustable straps or elastic components, allowing the wearer to fine-tune the fit based on their comfort and the size of their leg.

🔷 In conclusion, the fit is paramount. It should be snug but not constricting, ensuring that the firearm is both secure and accessible while also prioritizing the wearer’s comfort and safety. Regularly checking the fit and adjusting as needed, especially during prolonged wear or physical activity, can help maintain an optimal balance.

Can you ankle-carry a Glock 43X?

It can be ankle-carried, but it may not be the ideal firearm choice for that carry position.

➡️ Here are some considerations:

🔶 Size: At 6.5 inches long and 1.1 inches wide, it is quite compact but larger than many typical ankle gun options. It may print or bulge more than a smaller subcompact.

🔶 Weight: At 18.7 oz unloaded, it is on the heavier end for comfortable ankle carry all day. Lighter guns under 15 oz are generally recommended.

🔶 Capacity: It holds 10+1 rounds of 9mm. While this is a pro for firepower, larger double-stack mags add weight compared to tiny 5-shot revolvers often ankle-carried.

🔶 Comfort: The boxy shape could chafe or poke the ankle. Smoother profile guns may ride more comfortably throughout the day.

🔶 Draw stroke: The longer barrel and grip may catch on clothing more than a true deep concealment gun.

🔶 Alternatives: Smaller/lighter .380 autos like the Ruger LCP or 5-shot J-frame revolvers are often better suited to ankle duties.

That said, with the right holster and ankle band, it can absolutely be ankle-carried by those willing to dress around it and test for comfort. It offers more firepower than most typical ankle guns. But the size and weight are limiting factors to consider.

Conclusion 🏁

In conclusion, choosing the best ankle holster for your Glock 43 is a practical option for concealed carry, providing discreetness, comfort, and accessibility. We’ve highlighted several top-rated variants in this article, each with its unique features and benefits.

When selecting the right choice for you, consider factors such as comfort, retention, concealability, accessibility, stability, material, fit, and protection. Keep in mind that ankle carry may have its advantages, such as being a backup option and allowing for extended wear, but it also has some drawbacks, including a potentially slower draw and limitations with certain attire. Ultimately, the best ankle holster is one that suits your specific needs and preferences.

I recently got the ComfortTac Ultimate Ankle Holster, and it’s been great for my Glock 43. Does anyone know if it can accommodate a Glock 19 as well?

    Dima
    Reply to  FrFrench

☝️ The ComfortTac Ultimate Ankle Holster is designed to fit a variety of small to medium-sized firearms. It may be possible to fit a Glock 19 in the holster, but it will be a tight fit. It is a larger gun than the G43, and it may not be comfortable to wear in it.

💡 If you are considering using it for a Glock 19, I recommend that you try it out with the gun you plan to carry to make sure it fits properly. You should also practice drawing from it regularly so that you can do it quickly and smoothly.

        ➡️ Here are the steps:

        • 🔴 Adjust the strap so that it is snug around your calf.
        • 🔴 Secure the strap by pressing the Velcro tab back down.

How does the Gould & Goodrich BootLock Ankle Holster perform when worn over different types of boots?

😎 The Gould & Goodrich BootLock Ankle Holster is designed to be worn over a variety of boots, including hiking boots, work boots, and tactical boots. It features a wraparound design that secures the boot by lacing the boot laces through the wrap portion. This provides a secure and stable fit that will not come loose during activity.

👌 It is available in a variety of sizes to accommodate different gun models and boot sizes. It also features a thumb break for added security. Overall, it is a versatile and reliable option for carrying a gun securely and comfortably on your ankle, regardless of the type of boots you wear.

I’m curious about the Fobus Glock 43 Ankle Holster. Is it suitable for everyday carry?

✅ The Fobus Glock 43 Ankle Holster is a well-made and affordable option for concealed carry. It is made of high-quality polymer and features a suede-lined corduroy pad for comfort. It has adjustable retention and can be worn on either ankle.

😎 Whether or not it is suitable for everyday carry depends on your individual needs and preferences. Here are some factors to consider:

                    • 🔶 Concealability: They are very concealable, especially when worn with loose-fitting clothing. This makes them a good option for people who want to carry a gun discreetly.
                    • 🔶 Accessibility: They can be slow to draw from, especially if you are wearing thick clothing. This is something to keep in mind if you need to access your gun quickly.
                    • 🔶 Comfort: They can be uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. This is especially true if you are active or if you have a lot of walking to do.

☝️ Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to use it for everyday carry is a personal one. If you are looking for a concealed carry option that is comfortable and easy to conceal, then an ankle holster may be a good choice for you. However, if you need to access your gun quickly or if you are active, then you may want to consider a different carry option.

The Bianchi 150 Negotiator Holster is a bit on the pricier side, but the genuine sheepskin and full-grain leather make it worth every penny.

The ComfortTac Ultimate Ankle Holster is my go-to for concealed carry. The neoprene material is soft against the skin, and the metal snap retention strap is a nice touch.

I’ve been using the Desantis Die Hard Ankle Rig Holster for a few months now, and it’s incredibly comfortable. The neoprene leg band with foam and sheepskin lining is a game-changer!
