If you’re looking to adjust the trigger on your Tikka T3, there are a few things you’ll need to know.
- The Tikka T3 has a two-stage trigger, which means that there is a slight bit of resistance before the trigger breaks. This can be adjusted by adjusting the pre-travel screw.
- This trigger also has an overtravel screw, which controls how far the trigger moves after it’s been pulled. This can be adjusted by turning the overtravel screw clockwise or counterclockwise.
- The Tikka’s trigger weight can be adjusted by turning the set screw located inside the trigger guard.
To adjust the pre-travel screw, start by removing the stock from the rifle. Then, using a 3/32″ hex wrench, remove the pre-travel set screw from the trigger housing (it will be located just above the trigger). Next, insert the hex wrench into the pre-travel adjustment screw and turn it clockwise to increase resistance, or counterclockwise to decrease resistance. Once you’ve found the resistance level you’re looking for, replace the set screw and reassemble the stock.
To adjust the overtravel screw, start by removing the stock from the rifle. Then, using a 3/32″ hex wrench, remove the overtravel set screw from the trigger housing (it will be located just below the trigger). Next, insert the hex wrench into the overtravel adjustment screw and turn it clockwise to increase resistance, or counterclockwise to decrease resistance. Once you’ve found the resistance level you’re looking for, replace the set screw and reassemble the stock.
To adjust the trigger weight, start by removing the stock from the rifle. Then, using a 3/32″ hex wrench, remove the set screw located inside the trigger guard. Next, insert the hex wrench into the trigger weight adjust screw and turn it clockwise to increase weight or counterclockwise to decrease weight. Once you’ve found the trigger weight you’re looking for, replace the set screw and reassemble the stock.

Trigger adjustment on the T3 is not like adjusting other rifles. The trigger can be adjusted without removing the barrelled action from the stock, but please note that disassembling or modifying your rifle may void the warranty.
The most important thing to remember when adjusting triggers are safety. Always make sure the firearm is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction before beginning any work.
Now let’s get started.
You’ll need a small Allen key. With the Allen key, insert it into the hold in the side of the trigger housing and rotate it clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the trigger pull weight. It’s important not to adjust the Allen key more than a quarter turn at a time, and to test the trigger pull after each adjustment.
If you want to adjust the over-travel of the trigger, you’ll need to unscrew the set screw in the back of the trigger housing with a small Allen key. Be careful not to lose this set screw, as it is essential for reassembling your rifle. With the set screw removed, you can now rotate the trigger itself to adjust the over-travel. Again, be sure to make small adjustments and test often until you find the setting that works best for you.
There are a few different ways that you can adjust the Tikka T3 trigger, depending on what you are looking to achieve.
- If you just want to adjust the trigger pull weight, you can do so by turning the adjustment screw located in the middle of the trigger assembly. If you turn it clockwise, you will increase the trigger pull weight, and if you turn it counterclockwise, you will decrease the trigger pull weight.
- If you want to adjust the sear engagement point (which affects how much travel there is before the weapon fires), then you will need to remove the stock and access the bottom of the trigger assembly. From here, you can adjust upward or downward on two different set screws – one controls overtravel and the other controls sear engagement.
It’s always a good idea to consult your gunsmith or firearms instructor before making any adjustments to your trigger, as improper adjustments can adversely affect the performance and safety of your firearm.

The Tikka T3 has a two-stage trigger, which means that two settings can be adjusted:
- the creep setting:
- the release point.
To adjust the creep setting, you’ll need to remove the stock from the rifle and then loosen the screws on the trigger assembly. Once you’ve done this, you can turn the adjustment knob to increase or decrease the amount of creep.
For the release point, you’ll need to remove the bolt stop pin and then adjust the set screw on the trigger itself. Again, turning this screw clockwise will decrease travel and decrease the release point, while turning it counterclockwise will increase travel and increase the release point.
First, you can try adjusting the trigger itself. This can be done by loosening or tightening the screws that hold the trigger in place. You may also need to adjust the sear/disconnector engagement. This can be done by filing or stoning the sear and disconnector as needed.
If these adjustments don’t give you the results you’re looking for, you may need to replace parts of the trigger assembly. The most common replacement parts are the trigger spring, sear spring, and disconnector spring. These can be found at most gun stores or online retailers that sell gun parts.
