Although there might be martial arts techniques that make karambits very effective, I personally find them too flashy and impractical. I have no interest in learning how to use them, and even if I did, I probably wouldn’t feel comfortable using a knife for self-defense.

The shape of the blade pulls material as you cut, making it especially effective for cutting rope and webbing. A Spyderedge can enhance this function. When used for self defense, the knife’s full cutting power is maintained all the way to the tip. If carried in a reverse grip, a Karambit or Hawkbill can be particularly powerful.
If you don’t have training in FMA or a perspective of that methodology, you may not find these knives as useful as intended. However, they work well as utility knives. The ring on the knife can make it hard to carry discreetly.
