  1. 📌 Attach the Holster to Your Belt: Slide the belt loop attachment over your belt on your strong side, aligning it to the position that feels most comfortable and natural for you to draw your Glock 19.
  2. 📌 Adjust the Drop Leg Strap: Once the holster is attached to your belt, adjust the drop leg strap so that the holster sits in a position on your thigh where your hand naturally aligns for easy access. It should be at a height where your arm is almost fully extended when your hand is on the grip of your Glock 19.
  3. 📌 Secure the Thigh Strap: Secure the thigh strap so it fits snugly but comfortably against your leg. It should be tight enough to prevent the holster from moving around, but not so tight that it impedes your movement or comfort.

  5. 📌 Practice Drawing and Re-holstering: Start practising drawing your Glock 19 from the holster and re-holstering it. The motion should be smooth and unimpeded. Repeat this process until you feel comfortable and confident with the draw and re-holstering process.

FAQ ❓

What retention features should I look for?

When selecting a drop leg holster for your Glock or any other firearm, it’s crucial to consider the retention features to ensure the safe and secure carrying of your weapon. Here are some retention features to look for:

🟡 ALS (Automatic Locking System): ALS is a popular retention system that automatically locks the firearm into the holster when it’s holstered. It requires a specific motion or manipulation to release the firearm, making it difficult for someone to grab the weapon without your knowledge.
🟡 Thumb Break: A thumb break retention strap is a manually operated strap that goes over the back of the firearm’s slide or hammer. It adds an extra layer of security and can be quickly released with your thumb when drawing.
🟡 Retention Screws: Look for holsters with adjustable retention screws. These allow you to customize the level of retention to your liking. You can tighten or loosen the screws to achieve the desired level of resistance when drawing the firearm.
🟡 Audible Click: A well-designed holster may produce an audible click or sound when the firearm is fully seated in the holster. This provides a tactile and audible confirmation that the weapon is securely holstered.
🟡 Level of Retention: Consider whether you need a level 1, 2, or 3 retention holster. Level 1 offers basic retention, while levels 2 and 3 incorporate additional retention features like thumb breaks and hoods.
🟡 Holster Material: The material of the holster itself can influence retention. Kydex and other rigid materials tend to have a more secure fit compared to softer materials like nylon.
Are drop leg holsters practical?
Yes, drop-leg holsters are indeed practical for various reasons. They provide easy and rapid access to the firearm, especially in situations where quick reactions are paramount. The holster’s lower position on the thigh makes drawing the firearm smooth and efficient. Moreover, they offer better weight distribution than waist or belt holsters, reducing fatigue during prolonged wear. With the added benefits of positional flexibility and rotational adjustment, users can draw their firearm from multiple positions and adjust the draw angle to their preference. Furthermore, high-quality drop leg holsters are equipped with retention options to keep the firearm securely in place and an open-bottom design that prevents debris or water from hindering the draw. Therefore, whether for professional law enforcement or personal defence, drop-leg holsters are undoubtedly a practical choice.
What is the best material for a drop leg Glock 19 holster?

The best material for a drop-leg holster largely depends on the individual’s needs and preferences. However, commonly favoured materials include Kydex, Nylon, and Leather.

Kydex, a type of thermoplastic, is highly recommended for its durability, rigidity, and resistance to water and other harsh elements. It maintains its shape over time, ensuring a consistent, unimpeded draw and re-holstering.

Nylon holsters, typically crafted from ballistic nylon, offer the advantages of lightweight construction, affordability, and versatility, although they may lack the rigid form retention of Kydex.

Leather holsters, on the other hand, are favoured for their classic aesthetic, comfort, and natural retention properties, however, they require more maintenance and may not withstand harsh conditions as effectively as Kydex or Nylon.

In choosing the best material, consider the environment in which you’ll be using the holster, your budget, and your comfort preferences.

How tight should a drop leg holster be?

The fit of a drop-leg holster should be snug but comfortable.

☑️ It should be tight enough to hold the holster securely in place on your thigh, preventing unnecessary movement and swinging, which could impede access to your firearm and hinder your mobility. However, the thigh strap should not be so tight that it restricts your blood circulation or causes discomfort during movement.

☑️ It’s crucial to strike a balance between stability and comfort. The strap should be adjusted so that you can comfortably slip two fingers between the strap and your leg. Remember, the key is to ensure that the holster remains stable while you move but does not cause discomfort or impede your movement.

How do I clean and maintain my drop leg Glock 19 holster?

Cleaning and maintaining your drop-leg Glock holster is crucial to ensure its longevity and optimum performance. Here’s a general guide on how to do it:

  1. ✔️ Remove the Firearm: First and foremost, always remember to remove your Glock 19 from the holster before cleaning.
  2. ✔️ Inspect the Holster: Check your holster for any noticeable damage or wear. Pay particular attention to the straps, buckles, and retention system.
  3. ✔️ Clean the Holster: Depending on the material of your holster (Kydex, Nylon, or Leather), the cleaning process will vary. Kydex: Mild soap and warm water will suffice for cleaning Kydex holsters. Use a soft cloth to gently scrub away dirt and grime. Rinse thoroughly and air dry. Nylon: Use a soft brush, warm water, and mild detergent to clean a nylon holster. Avoid soaking the holster as this could affect its rigidity and form. Allow it to air dry completely before using it again. Leather: Leather holsters should be cleaned with a damp cloth, and then treated with a quality leather conditioner to prevent drying and cracking. Never submerge a leather holster in water.
  1. ✔️ Regular Maintenance: Regularly inspect and tighten any screws or attachments, and replace worn-out parts as necessary.

Remember, proper care and maintenance of your holster will not only prolong its life but also ensure reliable and efficient use when you need it most. Always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for specific cleaning and maintenance guidelines.

Do I need any special pants or belt for a drop leg holster?

While you don’t necessarily need special pants or belts for a drop-leg holster, there are some considerations to keep in mind when choosing your clothing and accessories to ensure comfortable and secure carry:

  1. ✅ Belt: A sturdy and supportive gun belt is essential for carrying a drop-leg holster. A purpose-built gun belt is designed to distribute the weight of the holster and firearm evenly, reducing discomfort and ensuring stability. A regular fashion belt may not provide the necessary support and can lead to sagging or shifting of the holster.
  2. ✅ Pants: While special pants are not required, you should choose pants that are compatible with the holster style. Pants with belt loops that can accommodate your gun belt are important to keep the holster securely in place. Additionally, consider the fit of your pants; loose-fitting or cargo-style pants may provide better concealment and comfort.
  3. ✅ Adjustability: Look for pants with adjustable waistbands or elastic inserts, as they can provide a more accommodating fit for your gun belt and holster. Pants with a slightly larger waist size may also be more comfortable for carrying a drop-leg holster.
  4. ✅ Footwear: The choice of footwear can affect your comfort and mobility when using a drop-leg holster. Ensure that your footwear allows for unrestricted movement and doesn’t interfere with drawing your firearm.
  5. ✅ Shirt or Cover Garment: To maintain concealment, choose shirts or cover garments that can hide the drop leg holster effectively. Longer shirts, jackets, vests, or untucked clothing can help conceal the holster and firearm.
  6. ✅ Accessories: Consider any accessories or attachments on your pants or belt that might interfere with the holster or the draw of your firearm. Make sure there are no obstructions that could impede your ability to access your weapon quickly.

Ultimately, the key is to select clothing and accessories that provide a comfortable and secure platform for your drop-leg holster. Your choice should allow for a smooth and unencumbered draw, while also ensuring that the holster and firearm remain stable and properly positioned on your leg. It’s advisable to test your chosen setup with different clothing options to find what works best for you in terms of comfort, concealment, and ease of use.

Why do people wear drop-leg holsters?

Drop-leg holsters are a type of holster that is attached to your thigh rather than your waist. This offers many advantages over traditional waist-mounted holsters.

For one, it puts the gun in a more convenient position for drawing. When the gun is on your thigh, you can simply reach down and grab it without having to fumble around your waistline.

Another advantage of drop-leg holsters is that they offer better retention. Since the gun is closer to your body, it is less likely to fall out or be taken by someone else.

Finally, drop-leg holsters tend to be more comfortable than waist-mounted holsters. This is because they distribute the weight of the gun more evenly across your body.

Conclusion 🤩

The Drop Leg Glock 19 Holsters are a robust, versatile, and practical solution for carrying your firearm whether for professional use or personal defence. Their adjustable features allow for personalized comfort and efficiency, while the durable construction ensures longevity and resilience against harsh conditions. Notably, its design caters to quick, unimpeded access to your Glock 19, ensuring swift response when seconds count. Whether you prefer a tactical, paddle, low-ride, or MOLLE drop leg holster, the ideal option is available to cater to your specific needs and preferences. By following the guide on usage and with continuous practice, mastering the art of drawing from a drop leg holster becomes second nature, enhancing not only your comfort but also your overall firearm handling efficiency.

I agree with you. Drop leg holsters have their place, but they’re not a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s essential to think about your intended use, clothing, and comfort when choosing a holster for your Glock.

My drop leg holster is visible under clothing. What to do?

If your drop leg holster is visible under clothing and you want to maintain concealment, here are some steps you can take to address the issue:

🟩 Adjust Clothing: Choose clothing that helps conceal the holster better. Loose-fitting or longer garments, such as untucked shirts, jackets, or vests, can help hide the holster. Darker colors and patterns can also reduce visibility.

🟩 Position the Holster Higher: Depending on the design of your drop leg holster, you may be able to adjust its height on your leg. Raising it higher can help it stay hidden under longer clothing.

🟩 Cover Garment: Use an outer layer or cover garment to hide the holster. This can be a button-up shirt, an unzipped jacket, a vest, or even a long untucked t-shirt. Make sure the cover garment drapes over the holster and conceals it effectively.

🟩 Holster Accessories: Some holsters come with accessories like adjustable straps or clips that can help with concealment. Check if there are any additional components or modifications that can improve concealability.

🟩 Holster Cant: Adjust the cant angle of the holster if it allows for it. Tilting the holster forward or backward can help it sit more naturally against your body, reducing printing.

🟩 Holster Size: If your holster is too large or bulky for your firearm, it may be more difficult to conceal. Consider downsizing to a holster specifically designed for your Glock 19.

🔴 Professional Advice: If you’re still having trouble concealing your drop leg holster, consider seeking advice from a professional firearm instructor or concealed carry expert. They can provide personalized guidance and recommendations based on your body type and clothing choices.

I used a drop leg holster for my Glock while doing security work for a few years. The ability to keep it at your side without it digging into your waist is a plus. But, in crowded areas, it can bump into things or get grabbed if you’re not careful. You also need to watch out for it snagging on brush or obstacles in a more rural setting.

Hi! Is a drop leg holster a good choice for a beginner pistol shooter?

              Reply to  Gelbero

A drop leg holster may not be the best choice for a beginner pistol shooter, especially if they are new to firearms and handgun handling.
❌ Drop leg holsters can add complexity to the drawing and holstering process. For a beginner, it’s essential to start with a simple and straightforward holster to build a solid foundation in firearm safety and handling.
❌ Using a drop leg holster effectively requires training and practice. Beginners should focus on mastering the basics of firearm safety, marksmanship, and safe holstering and drawing techniques. A simpler holster, like an inside-the-waistband or outside-the-waistband holster, is generally easier to learn with.

In my case, I stand at 6 feet 3 inches with longer arms, and this setup feels somewhat awkward for me. I find it unnatural to draw my firearm so high up near my hip. My preference lies in not hyperextending, but rather in having the firearm comfortably situated alongside my natural arm position. This allows for a smoother draw, eliminating the need to reach upward from my resting stance to achieve the optimal grip.
