Benefits of 7.62x39mm cartridge

How to reload it?🛠️

Reloading ammunition can be a rewarding and cost-effective way for shooters and enthusiasts who want to tailor their loads to their specific needs. However, it requires careful attention to safety and adherence to proper reloading practices.

💣 Gather Equipment and Components:

🔷 Reloading Press: A press is used to assemble the components of the cartridge.

🔷 Dies: Reloading dies are specific to the caliber and are used to resize and shape the brass casing, seat the bullet, and crimp the case.

🔷 Brass Casings: Once-fired, boxer-primed brass casings are required for reloading.

🔷 Primers: Choose the appropriate primers for your 7.62x39mm loads.

🔷 Bullets: Select the bullets based on your shooting needs and preferences.

🔷 Powder: Use a suitable powder type and weight for the 7.62x39mm cartridge.

💣 Inspect and Clean Brass Casings: Before reloading, inspect each brass casing for signs of damage or defects. Clean the casings to remove dirt, debris, and residue from previous firing.
💣 Resize and Deprime: Use the resizing die in your reloading press to resize the casings to the correct dimensions. This step also removes the spent primer (de-priming).
💣 Prime the Casings: Place a new primer in the primer pocket of each resized casing using a priming tool.
💣 Charge with Powder: Follow the load data from reputable sources to determine the appropriate powder charge for your chosen bullet and powder type. Use a powder scale to measure the correct amount of powder for each casing.
💣 Seat the Bullet: Use the seating die to seat the chosen bullet to the correct depth in the casing. Proper seating depth is essential for accuracy and safety.
💣 Crimp the Case (Optional): Depending on your firearm and load, you may want to apply a slight crimp to the case mouth using the crimping die. This helps secure the bullet in place and prevents movement during feeding and firing.
💣 Inspect Finished Rounds: After completing the reloading process, inspect each finished round for defects or irregularities.
💣 Testing: Start with the minimum powder charge recommended in the load data and work your way up while testing the ammunition for safety and accuracy. Pay attention to signs of pressure, such as flattened primers or difficult extraction.
💣 Store Reloaded Ammunition Properly: Store your reloaded ammunition in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

What size bullet is best for 7.62 x39?

✍️ The most common and widely used bullet size for 7.62×39 is around 123 grains. This weight has become a standard for this ammunition, and you can find a wide variety of bullet types in this weight category, including full metal jacket (FMJ), soft point (SP), hollow point (HP), and others.

The 123-grain bullet offers a good balance of velocity, energy, and terminal performance, making it suitable for various applications such as target shooting, hunting, and self-defense. It provides adequate stopping power for medium-sized games and can be effective for self-defense purposes as well.

⏰ While 123 grains is the most common, you may also come across 7.62×39 ammunition with bullets in other weights, such as 122 grains or 125 grains. These differences in weight might have minimal effects on performance, but the 123-grain bullet remains the standard choice for most shooters due to its availability and proven effectiveness.

⚡ When using 7.62x39mm ammunition, it’s essential to understand the limitations of the cartridge and practice at various distances to gain familiarity with its trajectory and accuracy.

Is 7.62 x39 better than 30-30?

The comparison between 7.62x39mm and .30-30 Winchester (also known as .30 WCF) depends on the intended use and the specific context in which these cartridges are being evaluated. Here’s a brief comparison of the two cartridges:

📢 7.62x39mm:

🔷 Origin: The 7.62x39mm is of Soviet origin and was developed in the late 1940s. It is commonly associated with rifles such as the AK-47 and SKS.

🔷 Bullet Size: The 7.62x39mm typically fires a .310 to .312-inch diameter bullet.

Ballistics: It typically fires lighter bullets at higher velocities compared to the .30-30.

Can 7.62 x39 penetrate armor?

💡 The 7.62x39mm cartridge, which is commonly used in rifles like the AK-47, has the potential to penetrate certain types of body armor, especially if it is of lower protection levels. The ability to penetrate armor depends on various factors, including the type of armor, its level of protection, and the specific ammunition being used.

🔰 Level of Body Armor: Body armor comes in different levels of protection, ranging from Level I to Level IV. The higher the level, the greater the protection it provides against ballistic threats. Lower-level body armor, such as Level IIA or Level II, is less likely to stop 7.62x39mm projectiles compared to higher-level armor.

🔰 Bullet Type: The type of bullet used also affects its ability to penetrate armor. Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) bullets, which are commonly used in military-style ammunition, have a higher likelihood of penetrating armor compared to hollow point or soft point bullets.

🔰 Range and Impact Velocity: The distance from which the shot is fired and the impact velocity of the bullet also influence its ability to penetrate armor. At longer ranges, the bullet’s velocity may be reduced, affecting its penetrating power.

🔰 Body Armor Material: The material used in the body armor plays a crucial role. Some materials, like steel or ceramic plates, are more effective at stopping bullets than others.

Conclusion😊

In conclusion, the 7.62x39mm ammunition is a versatile cartridge with a rich history and widespread availability. Its performance is context-dependent, with characteristics that make it preferable for certain applications over others. When used under the right conditions and with appropriate bullet selection, it can serve as an effective cartridge for deer hunting. My favorite hunting round is Federal Premium Power-Shok 7.62x39mm Ammo 123 grain. I’m also looking forward to trying my slow-twist rifle and this rounds on a target to see if they destabilize and go sideways quickly, especially considering the slower twist rate compared to the typical ~1:9-10 twist. It should be an interesting experiment to see how they perform.

I’m on the hunt for the best home defense ammo I can find – one that minimizes over-penetration. However, I must admit that I lack experience in this area. Any help or advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I recommend Hornady Black 7.62x39mm Ammo 123 Grain. I conducted a test using a 16-inch ballistic gel block, and the round was fully captured without any over-penetration. It seems like a reliable choice for your needs.

In my experience, I’ve found that Remington Core-Lokt 7.62x39mm Ammo 125 Grain work perfectly for taking down pigs. I did try the Nosler 7.62x39mm Ammo 123 Grain, and while it was a bit tighter in terms of grouping, I didn’t think it justified the higher cost. Overall, it’s been an interesting journey trying out different types of 7.62×39 ammo for various applications!

Well, I bought an AK with the idea of shooting whatever ammo I could find. However, after trying out a few options, I’ve developed a preference for Federal Premium Power-Shok 7.62x39mm Ammo 123 Grain. Overall, I’m enjoying exploring different 7.62×39 ammo options for my AK and seeing how they perform.
