The Henry Rifle Company was founded in 1864 by Benjamin Tyler Henry. The company produced the first repeating rifle ever made and is responsible for producing some of the most iconic firearms in American history, including the Winchester Model 1873 and the Colt Model 1911.
The early Henry rifles were not serial numbered, but later models were. The serial number on a Henry rifle can be found on the bottom of the receiver, just in front of the buttplate. The serial number will also be stamped on either side of the barrel near the breech.
- ✔️ The first letter in the serial number stands for the year the rifle was made.
- ✔️ The second letter is the month, and the next two numbers are the day of manufacture.
For example, a rifle with serial number “A” would have been manufactured in January 1910.
🚩 The first letter indicates the year the rifle was manufactured.
🚩 The second letter indicates the month the rifle was manufactured.
🚩 The last two numbers indicate the day of the month the rifle was manufactured.

For example, if you have a rifle with the serial number 0123456, that would mean it was manufactured in 2001 and it was the 6th rifle produced that year. If you have a rifle with a serial number beginning with “H”, that would indicate it was manufactured as a prototype and is not part of the regular production run.
➡️ The next four numbers indicate the production sequence for that year. So, the next HM rifle manufactured would be #0001.
➡️ The last letter indicates the weapon’s caliber (.22, .30-06, etc.).
